Baptist Community Health Services is a non-profit community-based health care provider that serves the primary care needs of residents in underserved areas. The first BCHS facility is now
located in the Lower ninth ward, low income neighborhoods that were dramatically impacted by Hurricane Katrina.
BCHS accepts commercial insurance, Medicare, and Medicaid. Those without insurance coverage are charged for services based on an income-based sliding fee scale. Usual fees range from $30 to
$60. No one in need of care is turned away due to financial reasons.
The Lower Ninth Ward community today is devoid of any health care services within its neighborhoods. While there were few neighborhood health resources in the pre-Katrina era, none survived
the devastation of the storm or the difficulty recovery thereafter. The area has been identified as a community whose residents have great health needs but no ready access to basic care. BCHS
worked in coordination with the local community, the New Orleans Health Department and New Orleans Baptist Association in developing this facility within the overall primary care plan for
Orleans and surrounding parishes.
Baptist Community Health Services is a separately incorporated 501(c)(3) governed by its own volunteer Board of Directors. It maintains a close working relationship with the local Baptist
Association and their Compassion Ministries.
Demonstrating the love of Christ by providing high quality primary medical and behavioral healthcare in underserved communities.
