This past week has been a powerful reflection of what we are about at BCHS: serving, uplifting, and standing alongside our community in both action and advocacy. We're proud to share two important events that took place this week that helped strengthen our connection with the people we serve and our commitment to providing the highest quality of care.

Silence is Violence 2025 Mayoral Symposium

In a dynamic partnership with the local organization Silence is Violence, which helps survivors of violence and families who have lost loved ones to violence, BCHS took part in a mayoral symposium on Monday evening at Franklin Avenue Baptist Church. The event provided an invaluable opportunity for community members to hear directly from four major candidates running for Mayor of New Orleans: Councilman Oliver Thomas, Councilwoman Helena Moreno, LA Senator Royce Duplessis, and Judge Arthur Hunter (now endorsing Senator Duplessis). With a focus on exploring violence, safety, and culture, the evening gave attendees a chance to engage with the candidates and ask questions that matter most to their neighborhoods and families. The event was well-attended by over 300 fellow New Orleanians and marked by meaningful conversations.

We're incredibly grateful to Silence is Violence for their ongoing work in the community and to all who showed up to participate in shaping the future of New Orleans.

All-Staff Training: Leveling Up Together

In addition to our civic engagement efforts, BCHS continued to invest internally through all-staff training. This bi-annual event brings together staff across every department to strengthen skills, revisit safety protocols, and reinforce our shared goals and vision as a Community Health Center.

Highlights from this training included:

  • Provider Peer Review – Encouraging reflective practice and continuous improvement among our providers.IMG_0988.jpg

  • Clinical Skills Checks – Ensuring our clinical staff members stay sharp and up-to-date on essential care techniques.IMG_0994.jpg

  • Fire Extinguisher Training – Safety first! Teams practiced proper use of fire extinguishers with hands-on instruction.IMG_0970.jpg

  • Team Building & Fun – Because caring for others starts with caring for each other. Staff enjoyed a meal together, team-building games, and a fun luau.IMG_0979.jpg

These trainings are more than just a refresher — they are a vital part of how we continue to grow and ensure that every person who walks through our doors receives the best care possible.

At BCHS, we believe that a healthy community is one full of healthy individuals who are informed, empowered, and connected. Whether we’re supporting civic engagement or strengthening our internal operations, our focus remains the same: better care, better outcomes, and a better future for New Orleans.

Stay tuned for more updates from the BCHS family!
