NEW ORLEANS, April 23 – Seasoned senior executive and business innovator Phillip Brodt has been appointed CEO of Baptist Community Health Services Inc. (BCHS). The appointment took effect April 14.
Brodt most recently served as chair of Baptist Community Ministries (BCM), Louisiana's foremost grant-making organization focused on improving the physical, educational and spiritual health of vulnerable populations in the New Orleans area. BCM's mission closely aligns with that of BCHS.
In his new role, Brodt will lead BCHS as a growing and vital Community Health Center in the Greater New Orleans area, with six clinics throughout the region. He will be responsible for all programming and services, including adult and pediatric primary care, behavioral health, dental care, mobile care and response and HIV and other STD/STI services. Brodt reports to the BCHS board of directors, chaired by Michael Flores.
"The work being done at BCHS is critical to meeting substantial health needs across our region and closing gaps in care," said Brodt. "We’re excited to expand our reach while continuing to deliver BCHS’ signature high-quality, compassionate care to those in greatest need. As we do, we remain deeply committed to offering care not just for the body, but for the spirit – recognizing the profound impact spiritual healing can have on overall well-being."
With more than 30 years of experience leading firms and organizations – many of those as a senior executive – Brodt has earned a reputation as a business innovator skilled in helping organizations reposition for growth. He previously developed a national practice in aviation technology, building large-scale systems to support some of the world’s busiest airports. He has also launched companies from the ground up and worked with established firms seeking expansion.
Brodt is also actively involved in missional work in New Orleans, both as a philanthropist and a professing Christian. He said he is honored to lead BCHS, where he sees limitless opportunities to be the hands and feet of Christ in the community.
The BCHS leadership team – Dr. Hannah Pounds, chief medical officer; Teresa Bovia, chief operating officer; and Cary Calhoun, chief financial officer – will continue in their roles, reporting to Brodt. A new executive will also join the senior leadership team this month: Dr. Jané Watts as chief behavioral health officer.
