New Orleans, LA — BCHS is proud to welcome Chanté Calais, MD, to its pediatric care team, continuing its mission to provide compassionate, high-quality healthcare to children and families throughout Orleans Parish and St. Bernard Parish communities.

Originally from Cecilia, Louisiana, a small town she describes as having “only one stop light and lots of sugarcane fields,” Dr. Calais brings both deep Louisiana roots and a heart for serving communities in need. She has been practicing medicine for six years and is a board-certified family physician with a strong focus on pediatric and community-based care.

Dr. Calais said she was drawn to BCHS because of its mission-driven approach to care. “The BCHS mission to serve by providing quality healthcare to those in need lined up well with how I am called to provide underserved care in our community,” she shared.

Her passion for pediatrics is rooted in both her clinical experience and her faith. “The Bible says that ‘children are a heritage from the Lord’ (Psalm 127:3). There is a generational impact when serving in pediatrics,” said Dr. Calais. “I am excited to be able to provide support to new parents of a newborn, celebrate with a teenage athlete, or encourage a grandparent who may be playing an unexpected parental role. When serving our patients, we are not only affecting families, but communities as well.”

She added with a smile, “Also, kids are just so cute!”

Dr. Calais views her work in medicine as a calling shaped by her faith.

“When you recognize that God is truly the ‘Great Physician’ and that you are the vessel, it allows me to be available for how He wants to use me each day,” she said. “He provides the strength necessary to navigate challenges and reminds us that we can walk by faith and not by sight.”

Dr. Calais earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology from Xavier University of Louisiana and her Doctor of Medicine with Distinction in Global Health from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry. She completed her residency at Case Western Reserve University–MetroHealth, where she also served as Chief Resident of Education.

Throughout her career, she has been recognized for excellence in teaching, mentorship, and pediatric care, and has dedicated much of her work to serving underserved and vulnerable populations in community health settings.

“Dr. Calais brings a unique blend of clinical excellence, compassion, and mission-driven care,” said Phillip Brodt/CEO. “We are excited for our patients and families to experience the impact she will make.”

Patients and families can expect Dr. Calais to provide Christ-centered care focused on pediatric wellness at our clinic locations in New Orleans and Chalmette, located at 4209 St. Claude Ave., New Orleans, LA 70117, and 221 W. Genie St., Chalmette, LA 70043.
